There is some fascinating material about John Lennon and the USA at this link--if it works. I did not know he needed a visa to perform on the Ed Sullivan show in 1970.

This links to a page with 84 separate files. I'm not about to go searching through all of those. Also, John Lennon wasn't an American citizen, wouldn't you expect someone who wasn't an American citizen to have a visa?
