A Perry Resume Analysis.

James Richard Perry announced he was running for president on August 13, 2011.  He graduated from Texas  A&M with a 2.16 GPA in 1972 with a bachelors degree in animal science. I examined his transcript. It did not look that interesting to me and Perry must have felt much the same way. He “earned” a D in economics, an F in organic chemistry, a D in trigonometry and a D in Shakespeare - much ado about nothing, I presume.
In 1984 he was a democrat and in 1989 he was a republican. Eleven years later he assumed the office of Governor when George Bush resigned to seek the presidency. Clearly you do not need to know economics, Shakespeare or chemistry to be Governor of Texas. Perry supported Gore in Texas in 1988.
His resume is void of significant business experience, foreign trade or global financial experience. It would be a stretch to conclude that his experience as Agriculture Commissioner in Texas was genuine foreign trade experience. In 2003, he did give $20 million to Countrywide Financial to create 7,500 jobs.
Countrywide has been at the core of numerous financial scandals and litigation. A simple google search returns pages of alleged fraud, securities violations and investor litigation. I can forgive Perry for this mistake because so many others, who did not do their homework, made it too.
Perry does make a huge mistake in that he says he is different from George Bush because Bush graduated from Yale, and Perry graduated (barely) from Texas A&M. If I were Perry, I would not call attention to my college transcript. It ain’t that impressive.
Perry is a handsome man, with a strong jawline, a ranchers tan and a powerful speaker. We already have a powerful speaker in the white house. Talking is not like walking. Enough said!
The real problem is Perry is another politician. Based on what I have read in the press, he is certainly not a visionary or successful business person. Many of the comments about Perry’s association with the Gardasil vaccine, Texas secession, Bilderberg connections and immigration policy are yet to be fully explored. In my opinion, these comments will follow him around.
In summary, Perry looks good up close and personal, but falls short of having an impressive resume. His entry into the POTUS race challenges republicans to look beyond form to content. And if they do, then Perry will live a while longer in Texas.

More on Perry's resume coming later.
