Free stuff still gets the most traffic. If you want traffic, then offer something free. It is an indictment of the American psych that if its free we want it. But I should not Be surprised. After all, I watch television and from Desperate Housewives to Survivor, there is no rational basis for the success of those shows. And even I have been seduced by the drama behind Desperate Housewives. Not that these shows offer something free, but they appeal to the same underlying weakness that free stuff does. So it is not a large jump to understand that FREE is the perfect lure to catch everything.
Beneath FREE is the hope that it will be something good, something wonderful, something of great value and we will get it for free. It is completely irrational but FREE still works. No matter how often we get burnt, we can not resist an offer of something free - grasping on to the handle of hope that this time, just this time, we will get something for nothing.
