Another $4 billion down Alice's rabbit hole.

Obama announced today that he will seek $4 billion for computer science education.  The way the Obama program works is that communities will apply for and be awarded funds based on the communities' ability to show they have developed a computer science education program. This is standard federal procedure to control a communities' check book, make political friends and standardize education.

Some inexperienced Americans believe that these sort of government initiatives are effective. I do not. I have been involved with similar failed federal initiatives that the private sector was already set up to do better, quicker and more effectively. First, there is no agreement on what a computer science education is, but that does not stop Obama.

Obama's announcement is the stuff that makes great press, but lacks substance. It is a good idea that will never be delivered. The method is ineffective. Trump would never pour tax payer money down Alice's rabbit hole just to create good press.

Trump would use the private sector. Give the money to Apple or Google who are the computer science trainers of the world and let them have a goal of training 100,000 people in the computer sciences. They would know how to do it and how to get it done.

Another suggestion is allocate some of the funds to forgiving the student debt of people who successfully earn a computer science degree. There are many ways that I as a conservative would support the allocation of $4 billion to train people in the computer sciences, but I would never put the responsibility for this important activity in the hands of the federal or the state governments, which are the poster children for lack of accountability. Have you gone to the post office lately?

I had to get this last plug in for Trump as I leave Phoenix for Valencia, California.
