Canada has vast oil reserves. China wants to buy in. The USA does too and claims a preferential friendship by virtue of geography with Canada. Canada says they are not the 51st state and will make their own decision on who to sell the oil too. Makes sense to me. But China is a tough competitor. They have told Canada that China has a $300 billion sovereign wealth fund and will pay the price for oil admission.
They have said to Canada tell us what you want and we will pay it. In a Texas "All-In" game, the person with the most chips can take control. China has a lot of chips. America does too, but we need to play them, not count them. There will be "Time enough for counting when the dealings done."
To move the oil, knowledgeable sources say, they must build two pipelines - one to the Texas coast and another to the Pacific coast. The Pacific coast is in the direction of China. The Texas pipeline sounds a lot more USA friendly to me. Of course, the approval for the pipeline to Texas is hogtied by environmental groups, who cite the potential problems with spills and that the extraction of oil from sand increases greenhouse gas emissions.
A real CEO would call the Canadian Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, on the phone and say, "We are going to approve the Texas pipeline today. We will start building tomorrow. We will buy all the oil you have. Let's get started." "
"Wait Mr. Webtalk, Obama can not tell the EPA leaders what to do." He could sure try. He tells leaders of other countries, thousands of miles away, what to do, and the EPA is just down the block from the Whitehouse.
This type of action is bold leadership, which we need. Join me in my Fire Obama campaign.
