Insurance

I received a letter today from the MEGA Life and Health Insurance company. It was actually addressed to my wife. My wife has had trouble with her back so Blue Cross Blue Shield dropped her from coverage. Hence we went to the MEGA company in Oklahoma. MEGA means charge more for the same coverage.

MEGA wrote us a letter to tell us “they believe” we are grandfathered in to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act-Obama care. Being grandfathered in means that some coverage may have changed, but they can not be sure. They went on to further explain that some benefits may be changed, but they can not be sure of that either. If we have questions about “which protections apply or do not apply”, they directed us to the U.S. Department of health and Human Services at www.healthreform.gov. Are you following this?

Now attached to this letter was an Amendatory Endorsement. I read the letter several times carefully. I believe it said, if you are entitled to more health benefits by the new law, then you shall have them; and if you are not entitled to additional benefits, then you shall not have them. Hmmmmm!

The MEGA letter was silent on one issue-health insurance cost. I know that my health insurance is going up. My sons did not even receive such a nice letter and their health insurance was increased by 15% from 2010 to 2011. The only way to beat the health insurance game is not to get sick. But wait a minute, then the insurance company will have all our premiums and we will have nothing. Right? Right, there is no way to beat it.
