In a phrase, these citizens shall incur higher insurance rates. I am one of them. My insurance company no longer legally can offer the insurance we were happy with and ergo, I will pay an additional $2,400 per year for a plan conforming to the ACA. Why? For no reason other than that the ACA requirement prevents insurance companies from crossing state lines and prevents them from keeping current policies in force. Of course Obama et al. lied, but there is no punishment for a lie. Punishment is an obscure principle that we teach our children.
The problem is that 10 million damaged citizens are not sufficient to roll back the ACA. No one gets to vote and there are too few to make a difference. Further, there is no way to organize the 10 million citizens into a single loud voice shouting for fairness. And typically the undamaged will not stand up and be counted in support for the damaged. History is replete with examples of this principle.
We just went through a similar period with the mortgage crisis that left millions of Americans under water on their mortgages through no fault of their own. The citizens choked on the inequity while the banks were rewarded with cash for their equity.
What is next?
What is a citizen to do? How can we organize?
