A presidential resume must include China.

In 1972 when President Nixon served Schramsberg to toast then Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai, many Americans thought China to be a third world country. Also, Schramsberg was a little known wine maker in Napa. Schramsberg now sells all the wine they can make each year. China sells all they can make too.

And China? Well now, China now employs more than 1,000,000 people manufacturing iPads and iPhones and numerous other Chinese are manufacturing other electronic devices. Further, China has lent billions of dollars to America and recently built a steel bridge that it is shipping, 6,500 miles in ships made by China, to San Francisco. The bridge, made by China, will be the new San Francisco Bay Bridge. Is there nothing sacred? And things don't change you say? That is the beauty of wisdom, it is bequeathed only by father-time. I have a few years under my belt, so my observations are not without historical perspective.

While Nixon served Schramsberg in the historic "Toast to Peace"in Beijing, China, I lived and worked in Silicon Valley.  I observed that China was on a track to become electronic manufacturer to the world. Later, when my 5 sons were asking me what to do, I told each of them to go to China for two years, learn the language and the culture.  They asked, "Why?" I responded, "Because 1.3 billion people will want a better life." I was not a brilliant prognosticator just one of the early people to witness the changes that were occurring.

Jon Huntsman has worked and lived in China. He speaks the language and understands the culture. If a presidential recruiter were constructing the ideal resume for the job as President of these United States, it would look like Huntsman's background. Watch this blog because I will be reviewing the rest of the ideal presidential resume over the next few months. You may not always agree with me, but it will be food for careful thought.
