Maintenance

Do not forget about allocating some quality time to maintenance. It’s possible to get so caught up in living that we forget the importance of good old fashion maintenance, and how good performing maintenance feels.

Wait a minute Bob what is this maintenance you refer too? Glad you asked.

There are two broad categories of maintenance personal and tools. Personal maintenance refers to maintaining relationships with people and tool maintenance refers to maintaining things that we use. When I do maintenance of either kind, I feel good.

Here are a few ideas on tool maintenance: Getting the oil changed in your car, cleaning those old golf shoes, cleaning your golf clubs, sorting through a different drawer in your room every day for a week, giving those clothes you never wear to the goodwill, trashing those boxes in the garage that have been sitting there for months gathering dust-go buy a supply of light bulbs so the next time you need a 75 watter, you have them ready to go. Wait, Mr. Bob I do not need light bulbs, Yes sir that is the idea of maintenance. Get things ready now for when you need them in the future. Allocate an hour a day just to tool maintenance.

Here are a few ideas on people maintenance. Letters to grandchildren with $5 inside. Letters of thank you to almost anyone you know. A small gift to your spouse or good friend. It is the thought that counts. Lunch with a friend.

You know the drill better than I. This blog is just a reminder. I don’t know about you, but I need a maintenance reminder every once in a while. I get so caught up in life that I forget about maintenance. And then when I need that special tool or important relationship, they are both rusted.

Remember the letters EDC-“Every Day Counts.” It counts for you or against you. It is your choice. Me? I am going to write a few letters today and give my golf clubs a good cleaning.

And last but not least and perhaps unrelated. If you are in a hole, get a ladder.
