I am back without any demand at all.

Potpourri

Kathleen Sebelius has made it through 2013 without being fired nor has she resigned. Nonetheless,  I stand by my forecast that she is gone by February 15, 2014. There are plenty of great jobs in Kansas and thanks to Twitter plenty of companies are looking  for top female executives. However, her recent experience may take her out of the spotlight for businesses that depend on the Internet for their livelihood.

I am hooked on watching netflix and YouTube videos on my TV with my Chromecast device. Apple TV is the same. Last night Helen and I and the Jones family watched the Eagles, Willie Nelson, Elvis Presley, Cat Stevens, Patsy Cline, Elton John and several others. I managed the activity from my iPhone. It was so much better than watching standard TV content, which is for the most part simply trivial. Only once did my local AT&T Internet speed cause a slight interruption for buffering.

Google fiber is built for fast content display. TVs should be an independent content display device rather than dependent on what ever the networks allow me to watch. How many Seinfield reruns can a sane person take? Steve Jobs forecast that the video content of the future would be videos made by iPhone owners for others to watch. Name it, desire it, search for it and it is on YouTube somewhere.

Finally, next year I will blackball from my reading list anyone who uses the phrase "we need to go to the next level," or derivative phrases. Football teams must get to the next level, relationships must be taken to the next level, businesses search for the next level and so on. The next level has become ubiquitous and nonsensical at the same time. No one really knows what the next level means, but if you use it, no one will ask you what you mean. It is an unwritten rule among the "next level" users that you can use the phrase without having to explain what you mean. And therein lies its secret to broad acceptance. e.g. It has a total lack of genuine meaning because each person can define its use in their own terms without fear of challenge. Challenges are out of vogue.  Passive agreement is politically correct. It  must be or why else would we accept the ACA?
