Obama knows that Hope still sells.
I wake up every morning with some trivial topic on my mind. This morning, it was hope. I hoped I was not getting older, and then I walked by the bathroom mirror. Despite this unsettling image, I will still hope anyway. It is a preference never deterred by the truth. And so it goes, in other parts of life too.
Hope still sells. And Obama is still selling it. It is a product that defies delivery and has infinite versions. And if Bill Clinton's Grand Jury testimony has taught us anything, it is that few remember the earlier hope versions were flawed.
With the POTUS debates coming up, I suggest that Romney depart from selling the bugs in Obama's earlier hope version and start selling his own brand of Romney hope. Because it still sells. Americans still want it, whether it works or not. Americans buy hope with no associated accountability or delivery schedule. You are not compelled to deliver hope. You only need to develop another version.
According to knowledgeable sources, Romney is somewhere in Massachusetts practicing his debate skills. No doubt he is practicing saying numerous different phrasings of the same message, "Mr. Obama, you did not deliver on your promise of hope." This approach is a waste of time for Romney. No one buys past failures to deliver Obama hope. Americans will buy new hope versions. Obama is selling a new brand of hope. Obama knows what sells.
Romney needs to start selling his own brand of hope. I am not against it. I am for it. I buy hope too. We all do. We just buy different brands.
