My iPad.
It arrived Saturday April 2 at 2:30 PM PST. I can only suppose it was Apple's way of celebrating the resurrection of the old tablets in a new way. After all, it was the day before Easter.
I quickly opened the box not much bigger than a coffee table book. It was beautiful. The instructions were 3 sentences long. Connect to iTunes 9.1. I did. I was cuddling it within 15 minutes. It was passed around to a group of people at the iPad party and we all downloaded apps, discussed the future of cloud computing and the impact of it. It was just me and 300,000 other lucky early adopters, or visionaries as we call ourselves.
Was it worth it? I do not have enough superlatives to describe it and the experience. It was the last thing I touched before bed and the first thing I reached for in the morning.
I looked at newspapers on it. If I was a publisher, I would be running to Apple and begging for mercy. I looked at TV stations around the world on it. Same advice. I went to Netflix and watched a few movies. Indescribably delicious.
If you were to succinctly say, it is a big iPhone without the phone, you would miss the impact of the experience. It is probably similar to the impact of the first printed newspaper. Who needed it? At first, only a few. Shortly thereafter everyone. It is the device that will accelerate cloud computing.
It is the first real device built specifically for the Web world. It is designed for the Internet experience. Steve Jobs is not just a genius. He creates industries where none existed. He is a master job creator. He is an economic engine. I can only imagine what he could have done for America if they could have brought him in to consult on the health bill legislation.
Follow me on the adventures with my iPad. I will take you on a ride you will not forget. Tomorrow the drawing app.
