Today, I sat in my favorite chair and read the New York Times, Associated News, San Jose Business Journal, Bloomberg reports, scanned the weather in 8 cities, checked the stock market, responded to a game from one of my sons, and read the local news in Kansas. I do not subscribe to any "paper news" anymore. I am not alone and this is what concerns the traditional newspaper business.
In the digital world, printing economics do not create or dictate the need for local news papers. The iPad is a news reading device. I was a "paper boy"-I delivered newspapers for my job as a teenager. That job is history at all levels. It ranks with the telex machine.
Yes I could cart my lap top around, but the size, screen clarity and “feel” of the iPad makes it the preference. The iPad makes reading the news all possible and experientially pleasing. I like it.
I am not surprised that Apple sold 500,000 and I will not be surprised when many households have several iPads and Apple sells 5 million. It is a genre by itself and the apps are cementing the iPad in place as the ideal Internet access device.
BTW-- The battery seems to go forever.
I am hooked on the game “Words with Friends.” I play it with other family members who use their iPhone to participate. It is an awesome game. Go to apps now and get it. Get the free version to start.
Solitaire is even more fun with an iPad.
I am reading iBooks almost daily. I even like Winnie the Pooh.
The experience trumps the book content.
Stay tuned for more.
